Mountain Ash House

In Mountain Ash House Katharine has created the ultimate peaceful and welcoming coastal weekend retreat. Nestled on the English coastline, a stones throw from one of Devon’s prettiest beaches, this period property was developed and extended to create a luxurious family holiday home bathed in natural light and full of personal artworks and curiosities sourced from the Katharine Pooley boutique and on her many trips abroad.

Set within a conservation area – the surrounding village features thatched cottages and spellbinding coastal backdrop. Katharine’s in-house interior architecture team ensured all architectural alterations were approved and undertaken quickly – an extra floor was added and the interior partitions amended to allow a more contemporary open plan feel. An attractive exterior courtyard extends the living space and speaks directly to the beautiful coastal views beyond.

Katharine’s vision was to combine a traditional English cottage style – oak beams, roll top baths and limestone floors – with elements of a more international New England or Hamptons style. A cool nautical palate of blues, taupes, ivory and bleached timbers combines with soft, natural textures. One of a kind antiques combine seamlessly with bespoke commissions such as the lime washed bar in the main living room, while soft furnishings are timelessly elegant with delicate tonal trims and leading edges throughout. The final interior is an artful balance of the eclectic and the luxurious – all with unmatchable comfort at its heart – exactly what one would expect from a Katharine Pooley interior.
