Nestled on the edge of a picturesque Alpine ski resort and surrounded by majestic snow-covered mountains, I have crafted an exquisite interior for this light and contemporary chalet, with a strong emphasis on natural fabrics and organic textures. The property was acquired as a year-round alpine retreat for a family to fully embrace mountain life through skiing, hiking, and mountain biking.

With the goal of a complete transformation, only the pine structure of the previous rental chalet remained. The extensive refurbishment of the worn-out interior took less than 10 months to complete. I envisioned an interior embodying tranquility and exuding cosiness. We employed a multitude of natural and tactile elements, light-toned fabrics, clean lines, and fluid furniture designs to achieve a sophisticated and contemporary ambiance.

Adding a touch of unexpected elegance and refinement, a central open-sided fireplace and a linear bronze and glass kitchen enclosure were introduced to the expansive open-plan living space, weaving a cohesive narrative. I am also very pleased to announce this project was awarded ‘Best Ski Chalet’ in the 2023 Design et al. Internatonal Design Awards.

With its striking design, the kitchen draws attention and beautifully contrasts the high pine ceiling. Considering the families love for entertaining, the aim was to create an open environment with visibility of the chef, while minimising noise.

Locally sourced pine dominates both the interior and exterior and is complemented by local stone quarried from the surrounding mountains. Reclaimed timber, statuario marble, and subtle bronze accents were embraced to create a raw and layered backdrop while luxury home accessories were lovingly selected to tie everything together. Throughout the design, textured fabrics play a central role; bespoke cashmere from De Le Cuona dresses the bedroom windows and Colbourns sheepskin features in the home cinema.

I am very passionate about the British ‘Campaign for Wool’ spearheaded by His Majesty King Charles III, when he was Prince of Wales and Nicholas Coleridge. I selected beautiful worsted and boucle wools, cashmere, mohair and lambswool, and combined them with silk wool, linen and raffia to create an inviting cosy ‘nest’ of natural fabrics.

The kitchen stools were upholstered in soft brushed sheepskin, while timber furniture was hand-carved by a handful of my favourite workshops and joiners, including Rick Baker and Lee John. Gladee and Best & Lloyd pieces illuminate the different living spaces with their exceptional designs.

My Studio has brilliantly crafted this stunning Alpine home tailored specifically for an active and unassuming young family. Every aspect of the design was carefully thought out, taking into account the needs and preferences of each family member.

I have a passion for creating harmonious spaces that reflect the unique personalities and desires of my clients, and I invite you to discover more of our extraordinary portfolio.
