With the yachting event season in full swing, I have found it inspiring to witness the latest innovations and designs shaping the industry. These floating masterpieces are far more than symbols of luxury—they showcase the latest ventures in technology, groundbreaking engineering and of course contemporary design, constantly redefining what is possible on the open seas.
I am thrilled to unveil more details of our most recent marine design, a 62-metre motor yacht inspired by the history and hues of the Mediterranean landscape. The interior has been shaped by paintings and sculptures from our client’s personal collection, encouraging the selection of textures carried across the concept.
In superyacht design, materials play a pivotal role in creating an environment of sophistication. From the sumptuous feel of woven leather to the cool elegance of rock crystal and porcelain, each choice elevates the sensory experience. In Hera, we added touches of timber marquetry and intricate metal inlays throughout her expansive layout.
This specific concept was designed for a client who also owns a country retreat and vineyard in Italy, which has inspired much of the design. This yacht is more than just a luxury vessel – it’s an extension of the individual’s lifestyle. With a steel displacement hull and aluminium superstructure, this highly personal, contemporary masterpiece is a sight to behold. Conceived for a young family based on the East Coast of the United States, the interiors boast sleek textural surfaces and refined materials, with touches of timber marquetry and intricate metal inlays throughout its graceful design. The yacht features classical motifs, fused with sculptural form, to create a fresh and exciting modern interpretation of luxury marine life. It was essential to the client that the yacht was designed to cater for multi-generational use as the children of the family vary in age. Katharine approached the design with comfort and functionality at its heart for this reason.
Wellness and activities at sea were a key dimension in the spatial planning, the clients plan to use the yacht year-round. A beach club opens to the outer world with stern, port and starboard hull doors folding out seaside, with a luxurious bar, lounge and jacuzzi all placed slightly above sea level. Located here is a statement wellness area with a steam shower and hammam, a day head and a gym with sea views. Adjacent to the gym is the full beam tender garage which can be stocked with multiple tenders, jet skis and water toys. Entertainment areas are located both outside and in, with an outdoor cinema located on the main deck.
Our team has envisaged spaces that are carefully curated to flow elegantly together with a common narrative of finishes and detailing. Art, home accessories and elegantly layered fabrics and embroidery from Europe’s finest ateliers and workshops work in tandem with precision-engineered wall panelling and decorative lighting to create an ambience of quiet sophistication. The colour palette embodies nature with muted terracotta, dusty rose and light taupe featured throughout. Smooth, matte finishes with hints of bronze add depth and interest to the space.
Accommodation for 14 includes six guest cabins on the main deck comprising two VIP, two double and two twin cabins. The owner’s cabin has been designed with the client’s wish for a peaceful and serene feel. Fabrics and finishes reflect the tranquil ocean views beyond – this cabin enjoys a private deck with 180-degree views. The timber in the panels that sit as a backdrop to the headboard of the master bed, was repurposed from olive trees that had fallen during a storm on the client’s Tuscan estate.
Innovative lighting fixtures and integrated LED systems create reactive effects that enhance the experience of guests. Recessed lighting highlights design features while strategically placed sconces, pendant lights, and recessed fixtures create a sense of intimacy and cosiness, perfect for relaxing and entertaining onboard. A feature created by Katharine’s in-house bespoke furniture team is a spectacular feature bar in which the client’s wine collection will be displayed to maximum effect.
Stainless steel and glass guardrails across all levels deliver exceptional views with a sense of infinite openness. My favourite design element is the machine-chiselled ripple texturing to the central lift atrium, lit from above and below the texture is displayed to maximum effect. The yacht has an estimated volume of 1,200 GT and a beam of 11.8 metres. Powered by twin 1875 Hp MTU diesel engines, the vessel reaches a top speed of 16.5 knots, a cruise speed of 14 knots and a transatlantic range of 5000 NM at her economical cruising speed of 11 knots, while zero speed stabilisers ensure comfort both underway and at anchor.
As the industry continues to evolve, the emphasis on creating bespoke and personalised yacht interiors has never been greater. The future of yacht interior design lies in balancing luxury with functionality, and our designs are a reflection of this trend, ensuring every voyage is not just a journey but a seamless extension of one’s lifestyle.
