The creations of Welsh artist Brendan Stuart Burns appear in many of Katharine Pooley’s most spectacular interiors and his large-scale, highly textural, paintings feature in many of our clients’ art collections. We are thrilled to announce that a series of his works, celebrating the raw and powerful beauty of the natural world, is currently exclusively on show at the Katharine Pooley Boutique at 160 Walton Street, London. Brendan’s large-scale, evocative, paintings in wax, oil, and linen, have an abstract, ethereal, quality. As can be seen in the living room of this KPL Hyde Park project the emotional weight, textural beauty and grand scale of Brendan Stuart Burns’ pieces, make them a perfect focal point to complete a luxurious interior design.
To launch the exhibition, Brendan Stuart Burns travelled to London to take part in an invitation-only talk with Katharine on the subject of his life, inspirations and unique painting style. As part of a detailed and insightful interview, Brendan revealed a life-long love of geography, (geology specifically), and the intricate textures and formations of the Pembrokeshire coastline. The spectacular drama of this region is reflected in all his works, much of it comprised of layers of volcanic rock sculpted by the sea over millennia.
Katharine’s favourite paintings from the exhibition include ‘Tidal Shimmer’, a vivid blue and yellow diptych, and ‘Summer Squint’, an imposing tonal triptych. Both of these pieces are simply spectacular and illustrate exactly why many of Brendan’s works reside in esteemed private and national art collections around the world. They sit perfectly along side my own collection of luxury home accessories

As Katharine puts it: ‘This exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to introduce an artist whose work I love, to a wider audience. Hot off the back of a spectacularly successful show in San Francisco, I am thrilled Brendan kept some of his most beautiful recent works to exhibit here in London with KPL – it is a real honour.’
Launching Katharine Pooley’s ‘Art Evenings at the KPL Boutique’ with aplomb, Brendan Stuart Burns has given a rare and immeasurably insightful view into his life as a leading cotemporary British artist. He clearly approaches his painting with cerebral depth and careful thought. He has said previously that his work is: ‘underpinned by the central issues of absence, isolation, mortality and the spiritual’. It is this spiritual element that is most clearly felt when standing in front of one of these majestic works; they inspire a peaceful serenity that calms and transports you, perhaps to a secluded Welsh inlet and the gentle lapping of the tide.
Thank you Brendan and also to Brian Porter, Brendan’s agent and to the Osborne Samuel Gallery who represent Brendan in London. The Brendan Stuart Burns Exhibition will run until the 3rd of May at the Katharine Pooley Boutique, 160 Walton Street, London. Please contact the team to enquire about individual works of art.
