From the Founder: What the Butterfly Mark Means to Us

At the Katharine Pooley Studio true luxury has always been about integrity as much as beauty and today I am proud to share that we have been awarded the Butterfly Mark by Positive Luxury – a recognition reserved for real changemakers in luxury. More than just a symbol, the Butterfly Mark is awarded by Positive Luxury to brands that meet rigorous and evolving standards for people and nature. To achieve it, we underwent an independent, evidence-based assessment built upon international agreements, global frameworks and recognised sustainability standards. Every aspect of our business was examined – from governance to environmental impact and social responsibility.

The assessment reviewed:

? Our impact on climate, nature and water

? How we treat our workers, suppliers and communities

? How responsibly and ethically we govern and operate.

Our certified score is 76%, a milestone we are immensely proud of and one that marks the beginning of our journey. What makes the Butterfly Mark particularly meaningful is that it is not a one-off accreditation. We will be reassessed every two years and with increasingly rigorous standards. This ensures we are continually improving, challenging ourselves and strengthening our commitment to responsible luxury.

Amy Nelson-Bennett, CEO of Positive Luxury shared: “We are delighted to announce Katharine Pooley has been awarded the Butterfly Mark for meeting higher standards for people and nature, proof of a true luxury brand. As one of the most respected, creative and original British luxury interior designers, Katharine Pooley champions the finest British craftsmen. From strengthening responsible sourcing across the supply chain, to upholding high standards in animal welfare and implementing waste management policies with clear milestones to halve total waste generation by 2030, all while establishing strategic partnerships with charities, NGOs and local businesses to ensure long-term benefits are felt beyond its own operations. Katharine Pooley is driving positive actionable change towards a better future. Positive Luxury is honoured to work with the team and recognise the renowned interior designer as a Real Changemaker.”

To me and my team, sustainability is not a trend, it is a responsibility woven into the way we build for the future.

We have strengthened responsible sourcing, embedded a formal Supplier Code of Conduct to ensure transparency across our supply chain, implemented a long-term waste management strategy with clear milestones and established meaningful partnerships with charities, NGOs and local businesses to ensure our impact extends beyond our own projects.

Luxury has always meant creating something that endures. It is a privilege to share this milestone with you and I am so excited for all that lies ahead as we continue to shape a more thoughtful future together.

With love,
Katharine
